Beautiful cocoa beans emerge from the Lamas rainforest, producing an extraordinary chocolate with complex notes of flowers and tangy fruit.
The plantations are in the San Martin region, located in northern Peru, scattered across the lush tropical landscape. This area serves as a haven for endangered species, which are protected in Río Abiseo National Park and Cordillera Azul National Park. The crystal-clear lakes in the area, such as Lago Lindo and Lago Azul, are known for their pristine waters. The humidity of the Lamas rainforest creates ideal conditions for growing cocoa. The beans, grown organically, yield an exceptional chocolate with complex flavour nuances of flowers and tangy fruit.
About Oro Verde: The cooperative was founded by fifty-six coffee farmers from Lamas province, San Martin region, on 7th December 1999. By 2020, the cooperative had 1203 members. It unites the two cultures of the (high) Andes and the deep rainforests of the Amazon. Three-quarters of the farmers belong to the indigenous Chanca Lamista, Quechua or Kichwa from Lamas, while the rest are migrants. The main crops are coffee and cocoa. Since 2010, efforts have been underway to restore degraded areas with the motto "produce with happiness". Two million indigenous trees have been planted to create favourable conditions for flora and fauna in the area.
