Cafe Intención Coffee Beans

Cafe Intencion is a brand that uses fair trade coffee beans to create delicious blends. With two labels, the Fairtrade Label for fair trade and the BIO-eko label, Cafe Intencion coffee is ideal for the conscious coffee drinker. Back in 1993, coffee roaster J.J. Darboven in Hamburg launched the first Fairtrade coffee, and in 2005, introduced Cafe Intencion coffee beans. Just four years after its launch, Cafe Intencion coffee received its first accolade, the Fairtrade Award, for its fairness and responsibility. Nowadays, Cafe Intencion offers a range of coffee beans and blends that cater to all coffee lovers.

Cafe Intencion: Producing Fairtrade Coffee

Naturally enjoying what you drink is important to J.J. Darboven in Hamburg. So, Cafe Intencion aims not only to make a cracking cup of coffee but also to ensure that the beans are organically grown and come from fair trade sources. Cafe Intencion coffee beans are sourced from small farmers who are part of cooperatives. The main coffee beans used, Arabica beans, are grown by farmers in Central and South America. In 2016, to mark J.J. Darboven Hamburg's 150th anniversary, the Honduras Education Life Project (H.E.L.P) was established. This initiative aims to provide long-term support to 250 coffee farmers in Honduras. In collaboration with OLAM, J.J. Darboven Hamburg hopes to enhance living and production conditions for these farmers. In Honduras, the green coffee beans are purchased from COMSA, a democratic cooperative with 800 members, 25% of whom are women. COMSA became a fair trade organisation in 2005, making it a splendid partner for J.J. Darboven Hamburg. The Fairtrade certification enables COMSA to utilise premiums to enhance the quality and production of coffee beans, benefiting the environment and supporting various educational projects. This has a positive impact on the education of the farmers’ children and other locals. As a result, the region where COMSA operates is set to become more economically prosperous. The achievements of COMSA so far are remarkable: the living conditions of its 800 members have improved significantly, as have their surroundings and the quality of products they offer. For Cafe Intencion, the coffee farmers are of great importance. Therefore, Cafe Intencion ensures they receive a fair price for the beans.

Cafe Intencion Coffee Varieties

Cafe Intencion coffee beans are available in two versions: espresso beans and standard coffee beans. Cafe Intencion's Cafe Creme is crafted from mild coffee beans. The coffee beans used are Arabica beans, which are slowly roasted at a medium temperature. J.J. Darboven Hamburg sources these Arabica beans from Honduras and Peru. The farmers take cuttings from the coffee plants, and within five years, full coffee bushes with ripe berries are produced. After the berries are picked, they are washed and processed. Café Intención carries the organic label, emphasising the protection of nature and fertile environments. The berries are brought to farmers' cooperatives for processing. The espresso beans contain not only the renowned Arabica beans from Central and South America, but also Robusta beans. By blending Arabica beans with Robusta coffee beans from Africa and Asia, the espresso gets its distinctive spice and fuller taste. Most of the espresso blend consists of the well-known Arabica beans, with an addition of Robusta beans, which are roasted shorter and darker than Arabica beans. This combination results in a full, fruity taste from the Arabica beans, while the Robusta beans offer a perfect counterbalance with their spicy character.

Whether you're in the hotel and catering industry or just a regular coffee enthusiast, Cafe Intencion's range is sure to please. You can enjoy a delightful Café crème blend or an espresso any time of the day. The Café crème blend is available as filter coffee, but you can also get the coffee beans to brew your own delicious cup at home. The espresso is available as espresso beans, perfect for the catering industry where both coffee beans and espresso beans are available, along with ground coffee. To fully embrace the Café Intencion experience, there are also sugar sticks, milk cups, takeaway coffee cups, and espresso mugs available. Café Intencion guarantees a fantastic taste sensation, and it's a conscious choice with both Fairtrade and EKO certifications.
