Buy ground coffee
You're here because you're on the hunt for ground coffee. Café du Jour is delighted to help you find the perfect pack of ground coffee. We offer a variety of flavours and brands. Most come in what's known as "standard grind", but from some brands, you can choose between a fine or a coarse grind. The choice depends on the brewing method and the machine you use to make the coffee. Here's a guide on the grind sizes, from very fine to very coarse: Turkish coffee, Manual espresso machine, Percolator, Fully automatic espresso machine, Quick filter, Normal filter, Cafetière, and Chemex.
Fine ground coffee
What grind should you go for? If your coffee machine is designed to brew quickly, you'll need a finer grind. Consider an espresso machine that brews a cup in seconds. The fine grind releases flavour more rapidly as the water flows through it. But if you've got a filter or a Chemex where the coffee takes its time dripping, a coarser grind is better. Remember, the finer the grind, the more flavour it'll release. Using a fine grind in a slow-brewing method will give you a very bitter taste. If you go the other way around and use a coarse grind for a quick brew, the coffee might taste a tad sour.
Coarsely ground coffee
We find coarsely ground coffee to be the most popular choice. It's ideal for slower brewing methods. Many people here have a filter machine with regular filters. For the best flavour, it's great to grind your own coffee beans just before brewing. Ground coffee can lose its freshness quickly. To solve this, use whole coffee beans and a decent grinder. If you think owning a grinder is a bit much, Café du Jour offers grind choices with some of our ground coffee brands. Take Caffè Miglior, for instance, where you can pick the right grind for your specific machine.
Origin of ground coffee
South America produces top-notch coffee beans. They're carefully hand-picked, roasted, and then ground. The grind matters, as it influences the coffee's taste and strength. Coarsely ground beans work well for a French Press, while finely ground beans suit an espresso. Arabica beans from South America usually have a mild taste, making them ideal for a fine grind. On the other hand, Robusta beans are stronger and more bitter, perfect for a coarse grind. Choosing the right grind is key to getting the best flavour from your beans.
