Coffee deals on beans

Several well-known brands are regularly on offer. Each has its own style, so a discount is only good value if the coffee suits your taste and your machine.

Lavazza offer

Lavazza is an Italian brand with a wide range, available as pure arabica or as arabica–robusta blends. Most Lavazza beans come in 1 kg bags, which suits a bean-to-cup machine that is used every day.

Segafredo offer

Segafredo is known for a full espresso flavour. Its beans come in 1 kg bags and suit both bean-to-cup machines and espresso machines with a portafilter.

illy offer

illy uses arabica beans only. Its beans come in 250 g, including the Arabica Selection single origins and a decaf, and illy Classico and Intenso are also sold as ground coffee.

Prefer a smoother cup? Look for arabica coffee beans. Blends with robusta give more body and crema.

How to judge an offer

Compare the price per kilo, not the price per pack: a 1 kg bag and a 250 g pack are hard to compare otherwise.
Buy what you will use while it is fresh. A larger bag is only better value if you get through it. Once opened, keep beans in an airtight container away from light and heat, not in the fridge.
Check the strength out of 13 and the roast level on the product page, so the coffee matches what you usually drink.
Match the product to your machine: whole beans for a bean-to-cup machine or a grinder, ground coffee for a filter or moka pot, and pods only for the machine they are made for.
Look for an organic or Fairtrade label if you want coffee that was farmed responsibly.

Frequently asked questions about coffee discounts and offers

How many coffee beans do I need per month?

On average you use 7 to 10 grams of coffee beans per cup. At three cups a day that is about 700 to 900 grams per month. A 1 kg bag will cover your monthly needs.

Are online coffee bean deals reliable?

Yes, provided you buy from a specialist online shop such as Café du Jour. Always check the roast date and the best-before date. In an online deal the beans are often as fresh as in store, sometimes even fresher because turnover is high.

What is the difference between arabica and robusta in deals?

Discounted arabica beans are usually the smoother, more aromatic coffees with less caffeine. Discounted robusta means stronger coffee with more caffeine and more body. Blends combine both for a balanced taste and are often better value.

What is the value for money like with coffee beans?

Good value is often found in arabica–robusta blends in 1 kg packs. Pure arabica beans cost a little more, but have a richer aroma. With a 1 kg bag you pay less per gram without sacrificing flavour.
