Costa Coffee Caffè Crema Original Blend brings together Arabica beans from South America and Asian Robusta, roasted dark for a cup with plenty of character. It's part of the Costa Coffee Home Edition range, made for fans who want to brew Costa's coffees in their own kitchen.

Flavour

As an espresso it's intense, with dark chocolate and a hint of orange zest. Add milk and it softens, bringing out caramel and nutty notes, so it makes a very good caffè latte or cappuccino.

The Robusta brings intensity to the blend and the dark roast adds to that. It rates 9 out of 13 on our strength scale, firmly on the strong side, which is why the coffee still comes through clearly once the milk goes in.

Which machine?

The blend is designed for bean-to-cup machines and traditional espresso machines. It also works well in a filter coffee maker, moka pot or cafetière. These are whole beans, so for anything other than a bean-to-cup machine you'll need a grinder.

Set the grind to suit how you brew: fine for a traditional espresso machine, a little coarser for a moka pot, medium for a filter coffee maker and coarse for a cafetière. A bean-to-cup machine grinds for you, so all you do is fill the hopper. Grinding just before you brew keeps the aroma at its best.

FAQ
Customer Questions
Which coffee machines can I use the Costa Coffee Caffe Crema Original Blend in?

Costa Coffee primarily intended this Caffe Crema Original Blend for automatic espresso machines and portafilter machines. According to Costa, the coffee also works well in a filter coffee machine, a Moka pot and a French press. Because you receive whole beans, you grind them yourself to the right grind size for those last methods. In a bean to cup machine you simply put the beans into the bean hopper unground.

Which beans are in the Costa Coffee Caffe Crema Original Blend and how dark is the roast?

This blend combines Arabica beans from South America with intense Robusta beans from Asia. The beans are given a dark roasting profile, a dark roast, which gives the coffee a pronounced character and plenty of intensity. You buy the coffee as whole beans in a 1 kilo pack. The coffee belongs to the Costa Coffee Home Edition range, intended for making this brand's specialities at home.

What does the Costa Coffee Caffe Crema Original Blend taste like?

As an espresso, this coffee shows notes of dark chocolate with a hint of orange peel. Add milk and the coffee softens, bringing out notes of caramel and nuts. That makes this blend a pleasant base for milk drinks such as a caffe latte or a cappuccino. Because of the dark roast profile it is not a mild coffee, but one with a full and pronounced character.

Which grind do I need for the Costa Coffee Caffe Crema Original Blend?

You receive whole beans, so you set the grind size yourself on your grinder. For a bean to cup machine you do not grind anything in advance, it does that itself. For an espresso machine or portafilter machine use a fine espresso grind, and for a Moka pot a grind that sits just a little coarser. If you make pour over filter coffee, choose a filter grind, and for a French press a coarse grind. Filter grind and espresso grind are not interchangeable.

How do I store the Costa Coffee Caffe Crema Original Blend coffee beans?

Store the beans cool, dark and well sealed, preferably in the original bag with the closure shut or in an airtight tin. The fridge is not a good place, because coffee absorbs moisture and odours there. An unopened pack keeps for about a year, but the aroma is at its best in the first months after opening. If you buy 1 kilo and do not drink much coffee, you can put part of it in a separate well sealed tin.
