Lavazza Qualità Oro is a 1 kg bag of whole Arabica beans from Brazil and Colombia, produced in Italy and given a medium roast. It is the softer end of the Italian coffee spectrum: floral and fruity on the nose, gently sweet in the mouth, with honey and chocolate sitting underneath rather than on top. Aromatic instead of powerful, and just as at home in a filter as in an espresso cup.

A soft, aromatic Italian blend
Qualità Oro is the gentle side of Lavazza. The blend is built from Arabica beans grown in Brazil and Colombia, and it is taken to a medium roast rather than the dark roast most Italian espresso blends get. That leaves the aroma and the acidity intact instead of burning them off, which is why the cup reads floral and fruity rather than heavy.
The body is soft and rounded, with a gentle sweetness that carries through the finish. Underneath the fruit there are faint honey and chocolate hints that add depth without weight. The blend rates 5 out of 13 on our scale, well below a dark Neapolitan espresso roast, which makes it an obvious choice if bitter coffee is not what you are after.
How it brews
As an espresso it gives an aromatic, clean shot with a calm finish. Brewed longer, as a lungo or through a filter, it holds its shape instead of thinning out and the individual notes stay distinguishable. In a cappuccino the soft body works with the milk rather than against it, so the coffee stays present without turning sharp.
