Details

Intermezzo is a medium-roast coffee from Segafredo, the Italian brand of Segafredo Zanetti. It is a blend of Arabica and Robusta, with beans from Costa Rica and Ivory Coast, and comes as whole coffee beans in a 1 kg bag.

The name is Italian for a short break, and that is the moment this coffee is made for: a quick espresso or cappuccino in the middle of the day.

Flavour

Intermezzo combines spicy and sweet notes with a medium body. There are hints of vanilla, nuts and caramel, a touch of liquorice and orange, and a rich cocoa aftertaste. The intensity is 8 out of 13 on the Café du Jour scale and the crema is light.

Espresso and cappuccino

The blend is made for espresso and cappuccino. Drunk straight as an espresso, you get the full spicy-sweet profile and that cocoa finish. At 8 out of 13 there is enough strength for the coffee to come through when you add steamed milk for a cappuccino.

Because these are whole beans, you will need a bean-to-cup machine or a grinder alongside your espresso machine. Grind fine for espresso, only as much as you need, and keep the rest of the bag closed, away from heat and light.

FAQ
Customer Questions
Is Segafredo Intermezzo suitable for a fully automatic coffee machine?
Segafredo Intermezzo is perfectly suited for use in fully automatic coffee machines. The blend of Arabica and Robusta beans provides a full, intense flavour that really comes into its own in an automatic machine. These coffee machines are designed to ensure consistency in taste and extraction, and the Intermezzo beans offer exactly the right balance of flavour and intensity to make the most of this. Thanks to the right grind and blend of beans, Intermezzo is a popular choice for lovers of a strong espresso or lungo from a fully automatic machine.
What are the main flavour characteristics of Segafredo Intermezzo coffee beans?
Segafredo Intermezzo is known for its full-bodied, powerful yet smooth flavour. You will taste a blend of Arabica and Robusta beans, with a distinct cocoa finish, a hint of liquorice and orange, and notes of vanilla and nuts. Many customers appreciate the mild bitterness and creamy character, making this coffee accessible for everyday use.
What are the beans like in terms of oil and moisture content? Are they suitable for fully automatic machines?
Segafredo Intermezzo coffee beans are generally nice and dry and not excessively oily, which makes them particularly suitable for fully automatic coffee machines. This means less chance of contamination of the grinder, making maintenance easier. Several customers say the beans work perfectly in Jura and De'Longhi machines, among others.
Where do the beans come from and how does this blend distinguish itself from other Segafredo varieties?
The Intermezzo blend consists of carefully selected Arabica and Robusta beans from countries including Brazil, Costa Rica and Ivory Coast. Compared to other Segafredo varieties, Intermezzo is often chosen because of its balance between strength and accessibility and its distinctive Italian flavour. It works well as an everyday coffee, both at home and in the office.
What flavour intensity can I expect from this coffee?
The Intermezzo has an intensity of 8 out of 13 and therefore is classed as strong in our range, without being predominantly bitter. The coffee has a full flavour with a smooth finish and is therefore suitable both for lovers of strong coffee and for people who prefer a milder cup.
Are these beans suitable for both espresso and cappuccino or other coffee preparations?
Yes, the Segafredo Intermezzo beans are very versatile and are widely used for espresso, cappuccino, as well as lungo and even latte. The medium roast ensures a beautiful balance between strength and smoothness, while maintaining the crema layer. Whether in fully automatic machines or with manual preparation, these beans deliver a good result.
Why does the intensity on my packaging differ?
It may happen that the intensity on the packaging is displayed differently from on our website, or from packaging you have previously received. This is because coffee brands use different packaging and intensity scales per country. For example, some packaging uses a scale from 1 to 5, while others show a scale from 1 to 10. The design, language and graphic presentation may also differ by market. Is the coffee different then? No. The coffee itself is the same. The composition and flavour profile of a specific variant remain identical. The only difference is in the marketing, language and presentation of the packaging. Why do customers receive different packaging? We work with European distribution channels. Within the European market, products may be traded freely, which means packaging from different countries may be supplied interchangeably. This is permitted and has no impact on the product. Does this affect taste or quality? No. Packaging differences have no effect on quality, freshness, taste or authenticity. How can I be sure I have received the correct variant? Check whether the product name and item code match your order. The variant name is decisive, even if the intensity scale on the packaging is displayed differently. What can I do if I’m unsure? Please feel free to contact our customer service and, if possible, include your order number and a photo of the product you received. We’ll be happy to take a look with you.
