Rwanda Specialty 100% Arabica - Fresh Coffee Beans

This coffee hails from the Simbi coffee processing plant, nestled in the Huye district of Rwanda's southern province.

Simbi is managed by Abdul, who was inspired to dive into the coffee scene by his grandmother. She was a coffee farmer herself and one of the few in rural Rwanda who roasted and enjoyed her own coffee as part of her daily rituals. The processing plant was constructed between 2011 and 2012.

It officially kicked off operations in 2013 with a team of 85, 80 per cent of whom were women. In that same year, they threw their hat in the ring for the Rwanda Cup of Excellence for the first time, making an impressive debut by finishing 9th out of 159 entries.

We roast the coffee ourselves at a fairly modest temperature, but it darkens a bit sooner than most coffees, so it still ranks as a medium roast. You'll catch notes of chocolate and stone fruit, with a slightly fruity finish lingering on the palate.
