Mövenpick El Autentico, also sold under the name Der Himmlische, is a medium-roast blend of Arabica and Robusta highland coffees, roasted in Germany and packed as whole beans in a 1 kg bag. Chocolate and nuts lead the cup, with a little spice in the finish. It is even-tempered enough for espresso, filter coffee, café crema and cappuccino without changing character.

Mövenpick El Autentico
El Autentico is the blend Mövenpick also puts on the shelf as Der Himmlische, and it is a house all-rounder rather than a specialist espresso. The whole beans are Arabica and Robusta from Brazil, Colombia, Vietnam and India, grown at altitude and roasted in Germany to a medium level.
That medium roast puts the taste in the middle of the range: chocolate first, then a nutty body, and a dry, faintly spiced finish. Café du Jour rates it 6 out of 13 for strength, and the Robusta in the blend gives it enough body and crema to hold up under milk without the roast turning harsh in a black cup.
How to use it
These are whole beans, so grind them as you brew and match the grind to the method: fine for espresso, coarser for filter. The blend is made for espresso, filter coffee, café crema and cappuccino, and it is forgiving enough that you can move between them on the same bag.
