Flavour

Bergamot is a citrus fruit, and it is the oil pressed from its peel that gives Earl Grey its scent — sharper than lemon, closer to orange, with a faint bitterness behind it. Here it shows as a subtle, citrusy note over a full black tea base. Drink it plain and the bergamot sits at the front; a splash of milk softens the citrus and brings the tea forward instead.
