illy Intenso ground coffee

illy Intenso ground coffee is the dark roast of illy's blend of 100% Arabica beans, in a 250 g tin. It is the same blend as illy Classico, roasted darker for a bolder, fuller cup. If you used to buy illy's dark roast, this is the same coffee under a new name and in new packaging.

Flavour and strength

illy describes Intenso as a bold roast with a pleasantly robust finish and warm notes of cocoa and dried fruit. On our strength scale it scores 9 out of 13 (illy intensity 7/9), which makes for a strong espresso.

How to use it

This tin is ground for espresso: spoon it straight into the portafilter of your espresso machine, tamp and brew. It also works well as the base for a cappuccino. Ground coffee does not belong in the bean hopper of a bean-to-cup machine; if yours has a separate chute for ground coffee, use that. Would you rather grind fresh? illy Intenso is also available as whole beans.
