Kimbo Caffé Crema Classico is a lightly roasted Arabica and Robusta blend from Italy, sold as whole beans in a 1 kg pack. Expect a soft, round cup with notes of chocolate, nuts and caramel and a gentle hint of spice. It makes an espresso with a fine crema and a mild bite, holds its own in a cappuccino and also works as filter coffee. Full-flavoured, but not heavy or bitter.
Details
A mild Italian blend with a fine crema
Caffé Crema Classico, produced in Italy by Kimbo, is for people who like a full cup of coffee that doesn't sit heavy. Arabica brings the aroma, Robusta adds body and a bit of backbone, and the roast is light. The result is soft rather than sharp. On our scale it sits at 7 out of 13: enough character to notice, without the punch of a dark roast.
Flavour
The first impression is a gentle sweetness of caramel and nuts, with chocolate underneath and a light spiciness on the finish. There are hints of toasted bread and almond too, and bitterness never takes over.
Espresso, cappuccino or filter
As an espresso it gives a round cup with a mild bite and a good layer of crema. In a cappuccino the soft flavour sits well with milk, yet the coffee doesn't disappear behind it. You can also use the beans for filter coffee if you prefer a longer cup.
