L'OR Harmonieux Espresso

Harmonieux is the mild member of the L'OR espresso range, and these coffee beans earn the name: nothing in the cup pushes. They are 100% Arabica, so there is no Robusta bite cutting across the aroma, and what you get instead is fruit and sweetness.

It starts fresh, almost green, then the sweetness arrives — sun-dried apricot rather than plain sugar — and the finish turns nutty, like lightly roasted peanuts. The body is soft and the fruitiness light, which is why it sits at 6 out of 13 on our strength scale: clearly there, but a long way from a dark, heavy espresso blend.

How to drink it

A mild, aromatic bean of this kind is at its best in the longer drinks. As a lungo or an americano the apricot note has room to show without the cup turning thin. It also holds up in milk: the light fruitiness carries through a cappuccino or a latte macchiato instead of disappearing into the foam. Pulled short as a straight espresso it comes out soft and sweet rather than punchy, which is worth knowing if you have found most espresso blends too heavy.
