Lavazza Espresso Barista Gran Crema is the blend Lavazza puts together for a bar-style espresso made at home: Arabica and Robusta from Brazil, Colombia and India, roasted to a medium level in Italy and supplied as 1 kg of whole beans.
How it tastes
A medium roast leaves the floral and fruity aromas in the cup instead of roasting them away. Behind them sits a light sweetness, and the finish is rounded, without the hard bitterness a darker Italian roast can bring. On the Café du Jour scale it is a 7 out of 13: enough body for espresso, still an easy cup to drink through the day.
In the cup
As espresso it pours with the thick, lasting crema the blend takes its name from. In cappuccino and latte the Robusta gives it the backbone to stand up to milk, while the softer, sweeter side is what comes through. It also brews as filter coffee if you want the aroma with a lighter body.
