Spice, tobacco and a dark crema

Crema Intensa is Pellini's Arabica and Robusta blend for people who like their coffee with real character. On older bags you will find it under a different name: the blend stayed the same when the name and packaging changed. The aroma is warm spice and tobacco. In the cup it is full-bodied, with a warmth that stays on the palate and a spicy, intense aftertaste. The crema comes out compact and dark hazelnut in colour.

It is a medium roast and sits at 7 out of 13 on our strength scale: a firm, characterful cup for anyone who finds milder blends too polite.

Grinding and brewing

You get whole beans, so you need a grinder: a bean-to-cup machine or a semi-automatic espresso machine with a built-in grinder both handle them well. On its website Pellini names Crema Intensa as one of the ideal blends for a straight espresso or a ristretto, for caffè latte and for a marocchino: espresso with cocoa and milk foam. It also makes a good base for cappuccino.
