Cocoa and spice in balance

Gusto Classico is Pellini's classic Italian take on an Arabica and Robusta blend, sold here as a 1 kg bag of whole coffee beans. The aroma is warm dark cocoa with a spiced note that recalls gingerbread. In the cup the sweetness of the cocoa is balanced by the liveliness of the spice, with a nutty edge and a full, harmonious body. The crema is compact and mid-hazelnut in colour.

It is a medium roast, and at 7 out of 13 on our strength scale it gives a strong Italian-style cup that is not harsh or overly bitter.

Grinding and brewing

Customers who buy this blend regularly tell us the beans are not oily, do not stick together and grind easily, which is worth knowing if you use a bean-to-cup machine. Pellini recommends Gusto Classico for espresso and ristretto, for cappuccino and caffè latte, and for a marocchino: espresso with cocoa and milk foam. It also makes a full-flavoured cup of filter coffee.
