Jacobs coffee types in our range

Our Jacobs range is small and focused: two blends of whole beans for machines that grind their own coffee.

• Jacobs Barista Crema, 1 kg: the smoother of the two, made for a long caffè crema.
• Jacobs Barista Crema Intense, 1 kg: the fuller, stronger version, for when you want more coffee flavour, or drink it with milk.

What is a caffè crema?

A caffè crema is a long black coffee made on an espresso or bean-to-cup machine. The machine pushes more water through a slightly coarser grind than for espresso, so you get a full cup, about the size of a regular mug of coffee, with a layer of crema on top. It is especially popular in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It is not the same as an americano, which is an espresso topped up with hot water afterwards.

Barista Crema or Barista Crema Intense?

• You mostly drink a long black coffee: Barista Crema.
• You like a fuller, stronger cup, or make cappuccino and latte: Barista Crema Intense.
• You drink both: start with the bag that matches the cup you make most often, and use your machine's strength setting to go a little milder or stronger.

Setting up your bean-to-cup machine

• For a caffè crema, choose a medium grind setting and a larger cup volume.
• For espresso, grind finer and keep the volume small.
• Coffee tastes bitter? Grind a little coarser. Thin and watery? Grind a little finer or raise the strength setting.
• On many machines you can only change the grind while the grinder is running. Check your manual.
