Many chocolate makers reckon the cocoa from Madagascar is among the best in the world. So, it’s no surprise that many fine flavour chocolate makers craft their bars from this cocoa. The cocoa beans that Krak Chocolate uses are a bit different from those of other chocolate makers, as they come from the Ottange Farm. Ottange Farm is beside the Ramena River, up in the northwest of Madagascar in the Sambirano Valley. It’s part of the Mava plantations and is the smallest of the eight plantations. Back in 2017, Ottange Farm won the International Cocoa Awards. Every year, around 6 tonnes of cocoa beans are grown on the Ottange Farm. The majority is used by the owner, the Ramanandraibe family, to make their own chocolate. A small amount is sold, and Krak Chocolate is lucky enough to create their bars with this.
