Rose Romantique is a loose-leaf oolong tea blended with rose petals and marigold petals, sold in a 100 g pack. The oolong base gives the cup body and a little depth; the rose sits on top of it as a soft, sweet perfume, with marigold adding a drier floral note behind it. It is blended and packed at Café du Jour's own tea packing house in Maasland, in the Netherlands.

Details

An oolong with rose and marigold

Rose Romantique is a loose-leaf oolong tea blended with rose petals and marigold petals, sold in a 100 g pack. It is a fragrant, clearly floral cup, but the tea underneath keeps it from drinking like a perfumed herbal infusion. Café du Jour blends and packs it at its own tea packing house in Maasland, in the Netherlands.

What the oolong brings to it

Oolong is only partly oxidised, which puts it between green tea and black tea. That middle ground is why it works so well under flowers: there is enough body to carry the rose, without the tannin of a strong black tea fighting it. The rose petals give a soft sweetness; the marigold adds a drier, slightly earthy floral note underneath.

Brewing it

This is a loose-leaf tea, so you need a strainer, an infuser basket or a pot with a built-in filter. Use a heaped teaspoon per cup, water just off the boil rather than at a rolling boil, and two to three minutes in the pot. Take the leaves out when the time is up: left sitting, the oolong turns astringent and the rose disappears behind it. The same leaves will take a second steep, lighter but just as fragrant. Drink it without milk.

FAQ
Customer Questions
What is in Rose romantique oolong tea?

Rose romantique consists of oolong tea, rose blossom and marigold. That combination makes a fragrant tea with a distinctly floral character. The pack contains 100 grams of loose tea. If you have an allergy, always check the ingredients list on the packaging.

Does Rose romantique oolong tea contain caffeine?

Yes. Oolong is a true tea from the tea plant and naturally contains caffeine, also known as theine. The added rose blossom and marigold contain no caffeine themselves. How much ends up in your cup depends on your dosage and steeping time. If you want no caffeine at all, choose rooibos or a herbal infusion.

How do you make Rose romantique oolong tea?

We recommend about 2 grams of loose tea per cup. Use water that has just stopped boiling and let the tea steep for 2 to 3 minutes. Oolong can often be infused a second time; that second infusion may steep a little longer. Water that is too hot or too long a steeping time overpowers the floral character of this blend.

How many cups do you get from 100 grams of Rose romantique loose tea?

Allow for about 2 grams of loose tea per cup. So from this pack of 100 grams you get roughly 50 cups. If you infuse the leaves a second time, in practice you will get a bit further still.

Do you need a tea strainer for Rose romantique loose tea and how do you store it?

Yes, this is loose tea with whole blossom parts, so you need a tea strainer, a tea filter or a teapot with a filter. Choose a filter with enough room, so that the leaves and the rose blossom can unfurl. Store the tea dry, dark and well sealed, and not next to strongly scented products, because tea leaves pick up odours easily.
