What is in this campfire tea
Campfire Evenings is a fruit tea on a rooibos base, and the ingredient list explains the name: apple pieces, cinnamon and cassia bark, cocoa kernels, star anise and anise, cloves, rosehip, almond and a little pink pepper, with pineapple for sweetness. Brewed, it lands somewhere between a spiced fruit tea and a mug of hot spiced apple, with the aniseed and the cocoa in the background rather than out in front.
The rooibos base means there is no tea leaf and no caffeine, which is what makes this an evening blend rather than a breakfast one.
Brewing
Use a teapot, an infuser or a mug strainer. It is loose tea, so you set the strength: a heaped teaspoon per cup, water straight off the boil, five to seven minutes. Rooibos, dried fruit and whole spices all need the full time to open up, and none of them turn bitter if you leave them longer, so a forgotten pot is no disaster. Serve it hot; the spices are the point of this one.
