Redbush is another name for rooibos, and this one is blended for two things at once. Strawberry and red rose petals do the sweet half; green and black pepper do the spicy half, as a warmth across the tongue rather than a burn. Naturally caffeine-free, so it is as much an evening tea as an afternoon one. 100 g of loose tea from Café du Jour.
Details

How spicy is it, really?

Sweet comes first: strawberry and red rose petals give the cup a soft, fruity body. The green and black pepper follow, as a warmth that spreads rather than a heat that bites, and they stop well short of taking the blend over. It belongs with the herbal teas rather than with the black and green ones: no tea leaf in it, and no caffeine.

Brewing

A level teaspoon, 2 to 3 g, per 200 ml cup; water at around 95 °C; five to seven minutes in a strainer or an infuser. Rooibos is naturally low in tannin, so it does not turn bitter on a long steep — a pot left standing while you get on with something else is no loss. For a cold jug, brew at double strength, 4 to 5 g per 200 ml, and let it cool right down before it meets the ice. A slice of lemon, a few fresh strawberries or a sprig of mint finish it off.

FAQ
Customer Questions
Does Sweet n Spicy Redbush rooibos contain caffeine?

No, this rooibos tea is caffeine-free. Rooibos comes from the South African Aspalathus linearis plant and naturally contains no caffeine. That means you can drink Sweet n Spicy Redbush at any time of day, including the evening.

What is in Sweet n Spicy Redbush rooibos tea?

This blend contains rooibos, green pepper, black pepper, strawberry, red rose petals and natural flavouring. It contains no artificial colourings or flavour enhancers. If you have an allergy, always check the ingredient list on the packaging.

How spicy is Sweet n Spicy Redbush rooibos?

The base is soft and fruity thanks to the strawberry and the red rose petals. The green and black pepper add a warm, spicy touch to that, but do not take over. The result is a tea that tastes sweet and spicy at the same time, also suitable for anyone who does not normally drink rooibos.

How do you brew Sweet n Spicy Redbush loose leaf tea?

Use about a level teaspoon, some 2 to 3 grams, per 200 ml cup. Heat the water to around 95 degrees and let the tea steep for 5 to 7 minutes in a tea strainer or infuser. Rooibos does not turn bitter with a longer steeping time, so you can take your time.

Can you also make iced tea from Sweet n Spicy Redbush?

Yes, this rooibos works well as a cold drink. Brew the tea twice as strong, about 4 to 5 grams per 200 ml, and let it cool down completely at room temperature. Then pour it into a glass filled with ice cubes and garnish to taste with a slice of lemon, fresh strawberries or mint.
