Tea tongs with a 50 mm mesh infuser for brewing loose tea by the cup. Squeeze the arms to open the two halves, fill them with tea and let go; when the cup is ready, squeeze again over the bin and the used leaves drop straight out. Because the filter is mesh rather than punched metal, it also holds fine-cut and broken-leaf teas. Dishwasher safe.

Details

Loose tea in a mug, without the mess

These tea tongs hold loose tea in a mesh ball on the end of a pair of sprung arms. Squeeze the handle and the two halves open, fill them, let go and they close again. That single movement is the point of them: there is no chain to unhook, no lid to screw down and no fiddling with a wet basket afterwards. When the tea has brewed, lift the tongs out, hold them over the bin and squeeze once more to drop the leaves out.

A mesh filter, so fine teas stay put

The filter is mesh rather than punched holes, so the openings are small enough for fine-cut tea and for the broken leaf and small pieces you find in many fruit and herbal blends. Far less of it ends up as sediment in the bottom of your cup, which is where a wide-holed infuser usually lets you down.

Using them

The ball measures 50 mm across, which suits a standard mug or cup. Fill it loosely rather than packing it full: the leaves need room to open in the water, and a half-filled infuser gives you more flavour than a tightly stuffed one. Take the tongs out when the tea tastes right to you, which is the whole advantage of loose tea over a bag. Afterwards, rinse them under the tap or put them in the dishwasher.

FAQ
Customer Questions
What do you use the mesh tea tongs for?

With these tea tongs you quickly make a cup of fresh loose tea. You squeeze the tongs open, spoon in loose tea and release them, after which the mesh strainer closes. After steeping, you squeeze the tongs open again over the bin and they are empty in no time. Because the strainer is made of fine mesh, you can also use it for finely cut types of tea.

Are the mesh tea tongs suitable for fine loose tea?

Yes. The strainer of these tea tongs is made of fine mesh rather than coarse holes, so finely cut types of tea stay in place well. Think of fine rooibos, herbal blends and broken tea leaves. Only powdered tea such as matcha does not belong in a strainer; you stir that straight into the water.

Are the mesh tea tongs dishwasher safe?

Yes, these tea tongs are dishwasher friendly. We do recommend tapping or rinsing out loose tea remains first, so that no leaves stay caught in the mesh. For daily use, a quick rinse with warm water is enough.

What material are the mesh tea tongs made of and how big is the strainer?

The tea tongs are made of stainless steel, including the mesh strainer. The ball-shaped strainer has a diameter of 50 mm, which fits in a regular tea mug or teacup. You receive one piece per order.

How much loose tea do you put in the mesh tea tongs?

We recommend about 2 grams of loose tea per cup, which is roughly a level teaspoon. Do not fill the tea tongs to the brim: the leaves need room to unfurl, otherwise the tea turns out weak. For the water temperature and the steeping time, follow the brewing advice for the type of tea you are using.
