Costa Coffee Colombian Roast

Costa Coffee Colombian Roast is a medium roast of 100% Arabica from Colombia, rated 8 out of 13 on the Café du Jour intensity scale. Caramel leads the aroma, with honey behind it and a lift of red fruit and orange in the cup: the brightness Colombian Arabica is known for, without the roast tipping into bitterness.

There is no Robusta in the pack, so nothing cuts across the caramel, and the medium roast keeps the fruit in the cup instead of burning it off. Drink it black and there is something to taste; add milk and it does not disappear.

Brewing it

These are whole coffee beans, so grind to suit the machine: fine for a portafilter, or let a bean-to-cup grinder do the work. As an espresso the caramel gives the shot a sweet body; through a filter the red fruit and orange come forward and the cup reads lighter. In a cappuccino the caramel still carries through steamed milk.
