L'OR Elegant Espresso
Elegant is the gentle one among L'OR's espresso beans: 100% Arabica, roasted for a soft, aromatic cup rather than a punchy one. Lemon zest comes through first, bright and clean, followed by a sweetness closer to marmalade than to sugar, and a light nutty note closes it off. On our scale it sits at 4 out of 13, which puts it among the mildest beans we sell.
What to make with it
It is built for the longer drinks. A lungo or a caffè crema gives the citrus room to show itself, and because the profile is light and fruity rather than heavy, it stays recognisable under steamed milk: a cappuccino made with these beans tastes mild rather than roasty. Pulled as a short espresso it is soft and low in bitterness, which suits anyone who finds a dark Italian roast too sharp. Grind fine for espresso, a step coarser for lungo and caffè crema.
