Flavour

The dark roast gives a bold, aromatic cup with plenty of body. Expect chocolate and nuts, rounded off by a slightly sweet finish. It rates 8 out of 13 on Café du Jour's strength scale: strong enough to come through steamed milk, without being the heaviest coffee on the shelf.

What to make with it

This is an espresso blend first. Grind it fine for a short, punchy shot, or a little coarser with more water for a longer, smoother café lungo. Because the flavour holds up well in milk, it is just as happy as the base for a cappuccino or latte macchiato, so one bag covers both black coffee and milk drinks.

The beans work in fully automatic bean-to-cup machines and in portafilter espresso machines.
