Segafredo Caffè Crema Gustoso is the bean blend to reach for when you want a long, creamy coffee with some weight to it. Arabica supplies the strong aroma and the fruity, nutty notes; Robusta brings the full body and the hazelnut-brown crema. The beans come from Brazil and Vietnam and are roasted in Italy to a medium level, which keeps the cup smooth rather than bitter.

It is one of the stronger coffee beans we stock: 9 out of 13 on the Café du Jour scale, and 5 out of 5 on Segafredo's own. That shows up as depth rather than sharpness.

Brewing it

For caffè crema, Segafredo suggests 60 to 80 ml per cup - longer than an espresso, short enough to keep the crema sitting on top. A bean-to-cup machine will do that for you; with a portafilter, grind fine and let the shot run on. Grind coarser and the same beans make a solid filter coffee, and the body is heavy enough to stand up to steamed milk in a cappuccino.
