FAQ
Customer Questions
Does the Hario Buono kettle have a limescale filter and how do you descale it?

No, the Hario Buono kettle does not have a limescale filter. You keep scale under control by descaling the kettle now and then with a liquid descaler or a descaling powder.

How often you need to do this depends on how hard your tap water is. In a hard water area, descaling once a month is a good rhythm. With soft water a few times a year is plenty. Fill the kettle with the descaling solution, let it work for as long as the packaging says and then rinse well with clean water a few times. A kettle without scale heats up faster and keeps the taste of your filter coffee clean.

Can you set the temperature on the Hario Buono kettle?

No, you cannot set a temperature on this Hario Buono kettle. It brings the water to the boil, switches off by itself afterwards and has boil dry protection.

For filter coffee that is not a problem. Switch the kettle on and let the water rest for half a minute to a minute after boiling before you start pouring. The temperature then drops by itself into the range where pour over tastes best. If you really want to work to the exact degree, you need a kettle with variable temperature control.

Is the Hario Buono kettle suitable for the Hario V60?

Yes, the Hario Buono 0.8 litre electric kettle is made for hand brewing with a V60. The narrow, curved spout gives you a thin and steady stream, so you can wet the coffee bed calmly and evenly.

That is exactly what you need for pour over: you decide where the water lands and how fast you pour. It works just as well with a Chemex, a Kalita or any other dripper. Brewing coffee by hand becomes a lot easier (and more fun) with it.

How much water does the Hario Buono kettle hold?

This Hario Buono holds 0.8 litres of water. That is enough for roughly four to six cups of filter coffee in one go, depending on how big your cups are.

The capacity is deliberately modest. You never boil more water than you need, the kettle stays light enough to pour calmly and you keep it nicely balanced while brewing. Do you often make coffee for a bigger group? Then you simply boil a second time.

Why does the Hario Buono have a narrow gooseneck spout?

The narrow, curved spout of the Buono makes the water come out in a thin and controlled stream. That way you decide exactly where the water lands on the coffee bed and how fast it goes in.

With filter coffee that really makes a difference. Pour too fast or too wildly and you dig into the coffee bed, which leaves your coffee thin and uneven. With a calm stream you wet all the grounds evenly and get more flavour out of them. Never spilling next to your dripper again is a nice bonus.
