This SHG blend is grown by small farmers in Nicaragua. The coffee is fully washed and features the typical Central American flavour profile which is sweet and nutty with notes of chocolate and citrus.

Strictly High Grown (SHG) refers to the altitude at which the coffee is cultivated. For coffee to be categorised as SHG, it must be grown at 1,200 metres above sea level or higher. The higher altitude and lower temperatures lead to a slower ripening of the coffee berry, which results in a denser bean.

Please note that this coffee is unroasted and needs to be roasted before you can enjoy it.

FAQ
Customer Questions
What are the characteristic flavour notes of these Nicaragua Arabica SHG unroasted beans after roasting?
When these beans are roasted correctly, we expect a Central American flavour profile that is sweet and nutty, with distinct notes of chocolate and citrus. The reviews indicate that the flavour is balanced and the result is a pleasant cup of coffee.
Can I use these unroasted coffee beans directly in my coffee grinder or espresso machine?
No, before you use these beans in a coffee grinder or espresso machine, they must first be roasted. Unroasted (green) coffee beans are much too hard to grind and are not suitable for consumption without roasting. After roasting, you can grind and use them as you are used to.
For which type of coffee drinker and roast are these beans most suitable?
These beans are ideal for coffee enthusiasts who want to experiment with the roasting process themselves. Thanks to the SHG (Strictly High Grown) character and the sweet, nutty flavour profile with chocolate and citrus notes, this bean is well suited to both light and dark roasts. You can discover for yourself which roast best suits your taste.
Do I still need to roast these Nicaragua Arabica SHG coffee beans myself before use?
Yes, these coffee beans are completely unroasted (green). This means that you still need to roast the beans yourself before you can brew coffee with them. This is ideal for home roasters who want to experiment with the roasting process themselves.
