Harem is Passalacqua's blend of ten arabica origins, sold as a kilo of whole beans. Three of the ten rarely turn up in a blend at all: Guatemala Volcan Azul, Hawaii Kona Captain Cook Extra Fancy and Jamaica Blue Mountain, and it is the Blue Mountain that brings the honey, vanilla and dried fruit you taste. Sweet enough that most people stop adding sugar.

Harem is put together from ten arabica origins rather than the two or three most blends run on, and three of those ten are names you rarely see inside a blend: Guatemala Volcan Azul, Hawaii Kona Captain Cook Extra Fancy and Jamaica Blue Mountain. Kona and Blue Mountain are grown on a small scale and priced to match, which is why they usually get sold on their own.
How it tastes
Sweet, and sweet in a particular way: the Blue Mountain gives honey with vanilla and dried fruit behind it, and the rest of the blend is built around that note instead of over it. There is no robusta in the bag, so you miss the hard bitter edge robusta brings and get a lighter crema in exchange. At 7 out of 13 on our strength scale it sits in the middle of the range: enough body for a short cup, mild enough to drink black all afternoon. That is where the sugar habit tends to fall away.

It comes as a kilo of whole beans, so the grind is yours to set. Ten origins in one blend means the cup stays much the same from bag to bag, which matters more than it sounds when you are buying a kilo at a time.
