The evening blend in the Dutch Harvest range: hemp leaf and flower with aniseed, chamomile, hops, mallow, valerian and lavender. The aniseed is what you meet first, a soft sweetness over the herbs. There is no caffeine or theine in it, because there is no leaf from the tea plant in the bag. Loose tea, 40 g, around 40 cups.

Details

Sleepy Hemp is the blend Dutch Harvest put together for the end of the day. Hemp leaf and flower make up the base, with aniseed, chamomile, hops, mallow, valerian and lavender blended through it. Aniseed is the flavour you meet first, a soft sweetness carrying the other herbs behind it. The cup is mild and faintly floral rather than sharp.

Nothing in the bag comes from the tea plant, so there is no caffeine and no theine in it.

Brewing

  • One teaspoon per cup or two tablespoons per litre, and two teaspoons if you want it stronger
  • Pour over boiling water. There is no need to let it cool first, as you would for green tea, because there is no tea leaf in the blend
  • Steep for 5 to 7 minutes, then lift the filter out

Use a strainer, a paper tea filter or a teapot with a filter built in, and give the herbs room to open up. Packed tight into a small tea ball they cannot expand and the cup comes out weaker.

Cold

Dutch Harvest's advice is to brew it hot, so the simplest cold cup is one you brew as above and leave in the fridge. Cold brewing works too: leave the herbs in cold water in the fridge for 4 to 12 hours, depending on how strong you want it, then strain them out.

About the hemp

The hemp is fibre hemp, the variety also grown for rope, farmed in Oude Pekela in the Dutch province of Groningen. Dutch Harvest states that tea made from fibre hemp contains no THC and therefore has no psychoactive effect. It does contain CBD, which is not psychoactive either.

FAQ
Customer Questions
Does Sleepy Hemp tea contain THC and can it get you high?

No. Sleepy Hemp is made from fibre hemp, the type of hemp plant that is also used to make rope. According to Dutch Harvest, tea made from fibre hemp contains no THC and therefore has no psychoactive effect.

The tea does contain CBD (cannabidiol). CBD works differently from THC and is not psychoactive either, so it will not get you high or stoned.

Do you have to pass a test in connection with your work or a medical examination? Discuss this in advance with the body that carries out the test. We cannot predict how a specific test will turn out.

How much Sleepy Hemp tea do I use per cup and how long do I let it steep?

Allow one teaspoon of loose tea per cup, or two tablespoons per litre of water. If you want it stronger, feel free to use two teaspoons.

Pour boiling water over it and let the tea steep for 5 to 7 minutes. Unlike green tea, the water may simply boil here, because this is hemp and herbs and not leaf from the tea plant.

A 40 gram bag gives you about 40 cups of tea.

Can you also drink Sleepy Hemp tea cold?

Dutch Harvest's brewing advice is hot: pour on boiling water and let it steep for 5 to 7 minutes. The easiest way to drink Sleepy Hemp cold is therefore to simply brew it, let it cool down and keep it in the fridge.

If you want to make it as a cold brew, let the tea steep for 4 to 12 hours in cold water in the fridge, depending on how strong you want it. Then strain out the herbs. This is general brewing advice for loose herbal tea and not official advice from the manufacturer.

Does Sleepy Hemp tea contain caffeine or theine?

No, Sleepy Hemp contains no caffeine or theine. There is no leaf from the tea plant in it, only hemp and herbs.

Just like rooibos and other herbal infusions, you can therefore drink this tea later in the day as well, which given the composition of this blend is exactly the idea.

Which herbs are in Sleepy Hemp tea and is the tea organic?

The composition is: hemp leaf and flower (53 percent), aniseed (19 percent), chamomile, hops, mallow, valerian (4 percent) and lavender. The blend is 100 percent organic.

The hemp is grown in Oude Pekela in Groningen. If you are sensitive to one of these herbs or have an allergy, always read the label on the packaging before you use the tea.

Do I need a tea strainer for Sleepy Hemp loose tea?

Yes, Sleepy Hemp is loose tea. Use a tea strainer, a single tea filter bag or a teapot with a built in filter.

Give the herbs room in the filter so that they can expand. A tightly packed tea ball gives a weaker cup. Take the filter out of your cup or pot after 5 to 7 minutes.
