SUN Blue Mountain Medium Roast Organic Fairtrade - coffee beans - 1 kg

Blue Mountain coffee started out in Jamaica, but this one grows on the other side of the world: in the mountainous highlands of Papua New Guinea, over 1,500 metres up.

Picking and processing

The beans are picked in three to five rounds rather than stripped off the branch in one go. What comes in is washed, then dried in the sun before the green coffee is shipped on to SUN.

Roast and cup

SUN take it to a medium roast with their slow roast method. The aroma is exotic and fruity, the flavour complex and subtle, and the body is strong — firm in the mouth, delicate in what it actually tastes of. On our scale it sits at 8 out of 13, so there is real weight to the cup without the smoky edge of a dark Italian roast.

Brewing

A medium roast with this much fruit in it is at its best through paper or in a cafetière, where the aroma has room and the body still comes through. It arrives as whole beans in a 1 kg bag: grind fine for a filter machine, coarse for the cafetière.
