Vervain tea from the Tea Leaves Collection

Vervain is number 14 in the Tea Leaves Collection by Tea Cultures, and it is about as plain as a herbal tea gets: verbena leaf, and nothing else in the bag.

What it tastes like

Citrusy and fresh, with more in the cup than a flower or fruit infusion usually gives you. There is a clear lemon note running through it, herbal rather than sharp, and enough depth behind it to drink on its own. It needs nothing added and it does not take milk.

No caffeine at all

Because there is no tea leaf in the bag, only the herb, Vervain contains no caffeine. That makes it an easy cup after dinner or late in the evening, where a black or green tea would keep you awake.

Organic, and nothing added

The verbena is certified organic, grown without synthetic pesticides. No flavourings and no fillers go in with it. Each bag is wrapped on its own, so the herb holds its aroma until you tear one open.

How to brew it

• Water at 100°C, straight off the boil
• One tea bag per cup
• Steep for five to eight minutes

Herbs want hotter water and a longer steep than tea leaf does. Pull the bag after two minutes and you will get a thin, watery cup.
