This is an aftermarket water filter cartridge, not a Brita original: it is built to the same fitting as the Brita Intenza+ CA6702/00, so it drops into Philips Saeco, Lavazza and Gaggia coffee machines that take that cartridge. The brand names are here to tell you what it fits, nothing more.

What it takes out

Tap water carries chlorine, lead and copper in varying amounts, and chlorine in particular is easy to taste once you have brewed coffee with it. The cartridge sits in the water tank and reduces all three, so the water reaching the brew group is cleaner and the cup tastes of the coffee rather than of the mains.

You still need to descale

A water filter is not a descaler. It will not keep the boiler and pipework free of limescale, so carry on descaling your machine at least twice a year. Always take the filter out of the tank before you start a descaling cycle — descaler and filter media do not belong together.

Fitting a new cartridge

Prime the filter before it goes in: hold it upside down in cold water and squeeze the sides gently until no more air bubbles rise. A cartridge with air trapped in it will not draw water evenly. After that, drop it into the tank and follow your machine's filter routine.

How often do I need to replace this Intenza water filter?

The cartridge filters 50 litres of water. That is the equivalent of about 400 cups of coffee or about 1000 cups of espresso.

Replace the filter every 2 months in any case, even if you have not reached those 50 litres yet. If your machine gives a notification sooner, follow your appliance's instructions.

Do I need to bleed the air out of this water filter before I fit it?

Yes. Submerge the filter upside down in a vertical position in cold water and gently press on the sides until no more air bubbles escape.

Then place the cartridge in the holder of your water tank and follow the installation steps in the manual of your coffee machine.

Do I still need to descale my machine if I use this water filter?

Yes. This water filter removes substances such as chlorine, lead and copper from tap water, but your machine will still build up limescale.
