Brita AquaAroma - Water filter - Brita 216000

What it is

The AquaAroma is Brita's compact filter cartridge for coffee machines with a built-in water tank, sold under article number 216000. It is made for machines whose water runs from the tank into the machine under gravity, with no pump and no plumbed connection, which is why it suits mobile machines and tank systems.

Fitting it

The cartridge goes straight into the funnel of the water tank: no tools, no separate housing. Filtering happens while you fill, so the water passes through the cartridge on its way into the tank and reaches the machine already filtered. Check that it is seated properly, and check your machine's specifications before you buy, because not every machine is built around this type of cartridge.

What it takes out, and for how long

AquaAroma reduces the carbonate hardness in tap water, the dissolved minerals that bake onto a heating element as limescale, and it takes out chlorine. The figure to go by is the rated capacity: 145 litres at a water hardness of 10 °dH. As a rough rule of thumb that tends to work out at a month or two, but hard water and heavy brewing get through it faster, so treat the litres as the real measure. A spent cartridge looks no different from a fresh one, so go by the interval rather than by the look of it.
