Which BRITA filter do you need?

Start with where your water goes: into a jug, into the tank of your coffee machine, or straight from the mains into a professional machine.

BRITA filter jugs for the kitchen

A BRITA filter jug is the simplest option: fill it from the tap and use the filtered water for your kettle, your filter coffee or a glass of water. We have the Marella in white or blue (2.4 L) and as a white XL (3.5 L), the Aluna in white or black, and a glass filter jug. Each jug comes with one MAXTRA or MAXTRA PRO cartridge.

Filters for the water tank of your coffee machine

Many espresso and bean-to-cup machines have room for a filter in the water tank. The BRITA AquaGusto is a universal filter for this. The BRITA AquaAroma and AquaAroma Crema are made to fit specific machines; the product page tells you which ones. A tank filter reduces limescale where it matters most: in the machine itself.

PURITY C for plumbed-in machines

Coffee machines in offices, cafés and restaurants are often connected directly to the mains water. For those, BRITA makes the PURITY C Quell ST system: a cartridge that screws into a filter head on the water supply. We stock the PURITY C50 and the larger PURITY C150 cartridges, and matching filter heads. Check the fitting and the article number of your current filter head before you order.

Why filtered water matters for coffee and tea

A cup of coffee or tea is almost entirely water, so whatever is in the water ends up in your cup. Chlorine gives a flat, chemical note. Hard water leaves a film on black tea and dulls the aroma of coffee. That is why filtered water is one of the cheapest ways to a better cup of coffee or tea. How does a BRITA filter work?

A BRITA cartridge combines activated carbon with an ion-exchange resin. The activated carbon binds chlorine and other substances that affect taste. The ion-exchange resin captures part of the calcium and magnesium that cause limescale. Water runs through the cartridge by gravity in a jug, or under mains pressure in a PURITY C system.

When should you replace a BRITA filter?

• MAXTRA PRO cartridges in a filter jug: BRITA advises about every four weeks with normal use, sooner in hard water.
• If the water runs through noticeably more slowly.
• If the taste of the water changes.
• When the indicator on the jug shows that replacement is due.
• Tank filters and PURITY C cartridges: follow the instructions for your filter and your machine; the capacity depends on how hard your water is.
