Brita - Water Filter Jug Marella White XL + 1 Maxtra Filter Cartridge 3.5L

Hard tap water leaves its mark twice: in the cup, where chlorine and dissolved limescale flatten the taste of tea and coffee, and inside the kettle and the coffee machine, where scale builds up over the months. The Brita Marella XL deals with both. Water poured into the top section passes through a MAXTRA+ cartridge, which holds back limescale, chlorine and the unwanted tastes and odours that come with them, and collects in the jug below ready to pour.

The XL size

This is the extra-large Marella: 3.5 litres in total, 2 litres of it filtered water waiting in the lower section. You can pour several times over before it needs refilling, which is what makes it the version to pick for a household that gets through a lot of tea and coffee.

Living with it

The lid has a fill spout that opens with one hand, so the jug can be refilled at the sink without putting anything down or unclipping the lid. The handle is shaped to keep a full 3.5-litre jug comfortable to carry. PerfectFit technology makes sure the water that goes in actually runs through the cartridge rather than around it, and the BRITA Memo indicator counts down the four weeks or so that a cartridge is good for, so changing it is not something you have to remember on your own. Everything apart from the lid can go in the dishwasher.

What you get

• Jug: Brita Marella XL, white
• Capacity: 3.5 litres total, 2 litres filtered
• Included: 1 MAXTRA+ filter cartridge
• Cartridge life: around 4 weeks, tracked by BRITA Memo
• Dishwasher: yes, apart from the lid

Keeping limescale out of the water keeps it out of the kettle and the coffee machine too, so there is less descaling to do and more of the coffee left in the cup.
