- Specially refined: many bitter substances removed, full caffeine content
- Strength 8 out of 13 (Dallmayr: 4 out of 5)
Dallmayr prodomo is a top blend of the finest arabica highland coffees from the best growing regions, made by Dallmayr of Munich and sold here as whole coffee beans in a 500 g bag. Its typical character comes mainly from high-quality arabica grown in the fertile provinces of Ethiopia, the birthplace of coffee.
What Dallmayr prodomo tastes like
Dallmayr prodomo tastes spicy and rich in aroma, which is how Dallmayr itself describes the blend. The beans are finished with Dallmayr's own full-aroma roast, the Vollaromaröstung. The roast is medium, 3 out of 5 on Dallmayr's scale, and the acidity is also 3 out of 5. Dallmayr rates prodomo 4 out of 5 for strength, which is 8 out of 13 on the Café du Jour scale.
Specially refined, with all the caffeine
The pack says "spezialveredelt": Dallmayr gently refines the coffee with a special process that frees it of many bitter substances. The caffeine stays in full, so prodomo is not a decaffeinated coffee. If you would rather have coffee without caffeine, choose Dallmayr prodomo decaf.
Grinding prodomo beans for filter, French press or bean-to-cup
Whole prodomo beans let you set the grind for each brewing method. For the hand filter in general, Dallmayr advises 7 to 12 g of medium-fine coffee per cup and water just above 90 °C, and grinding coarser if the water runs through too slowly or finer if it runs through too fast. A French press (cafetière) needs a coarser grind. In a bean-to-cup machine, prodomo makes what Dallmayr calls a classic long cup without crema, so it is not meant as an espresso bean. More options are in our coffee beans for bean-to-cup machines.
Dallmayr prodomo since 1964
Konrad Werner Wille created Dallmayr prodomo in Munich in 1964; the Latin name means "for the house". Dallmayr's aim is to reach the same flavour profile every year, however much the harvests vary. The rest of the range is on our Dallmayr page.
Packaging, origin and sustainability
Straight after roasting, the whole beans are sealed aroma-tight in this pack under a protective atmosphere. An aroma valve keeps air away from the beans, so the aroma is preserved. Once opened, keep the pack well closed in a cool, dry place. Dallmayr prodomo is made in Germany with green coffee from outside the EU and is part of Dallmayr's Via Verde sustainability programme.
