Puly Grind coffee grinder cleaner

What is Puly Grind?

Puly Grind is an Italian coffee grinder cleaner. The grinder cleaner comes as cleaning granules, sometimes called grinder pellets, in single-dose sachets that you run through the grinder like coffee beans, to clear oil and coffee residue from the burrs. The second product, in a 200 ml pack, is for cleaning the bean hopper, where coffee oils also build up.

Why clean a coffee grinder?

Coffee beans contain oils. Every time you grind, a thin film of oil and fine coffee dust stays behind on the burrs, in the grinding chamber and on the walls of the hopper. Over time that residue goes stale and rancid, and your fresh coffee picks up the taste. A grinder cleaner removes it without taking the grinder apart.

Which Puly Grind do you need?

Grinder cleaner, 10 sachets

The Puly Grind grinder cleaner contains ten sachets of cleaning granules. Each sachet is one pre-measured dose for one cleaning. It is meant for standalone espresso grinders and for grinders built into bean-to-cup machines.

Hopper cleaner, 200 ml

The Puly Grind hopper cleaner is for the bean hopper: the container above the grinder where the beans wait. Oil from the beans collects on its walls and turns sticky. Use it according to the instructions on the pack.

How to use the grinder cleaner

  1. Grind until there are no coffee beans left in the hopper and the grinder.
  2. Pour one sachet of granules into the empty hopper.
  3. Run the grinder until all granules have passed through.
  4. Grind a small amount of coffee beans to push out any remaining residue.
  5. Throw away that first portion of ground coffee. The grinder is ready to use.

Check the manual of your grinder or bean-to-cup machine before you use cleaning granules.

How often should you clean a grinder?

As a rule of thumb, once a month is enough for a grinder at home. A grinder that runs all day in a café or office needs it weekly.

Part of wider machine care

A clean grinder is one part of looking after your coffee machine. Puly Grind sits alongside our barista tools and other cleaning agents. For the rest of the machine you need other products.

Frequently asked questions about Puly Grind coffee grinder cleaner
How do you clean a coffee grinder without Puly Grind?

If you do not have a specialised grinder cleaner you can wipe the hopper and the exterior with a dry cloth. The burrs themselves are difficult to reach without disassembling the machine. A grinder cleaner such as Puly Grind cleans the burrs from the inside without opening the grinder.

What are coffee grind residues and why are they a problem?

Coffee grind residues are small particles of ground coffee that remain in the grinder unit. Together with coffee oils they form a greasy layer on the burrs. This layer gives your coffee a bitter or musty taste, and regular maintenance of the grinder unit resolves the issue.

Can you use Puly Grind in a fully automatic machine?

Yes. Puly Grind is specifically designed for maintenance of fully automatic machines and works in models with a built-in grinder. Follow your machine's instructions for the correct procedure.

Is Puly Grind safe for my grinder?

Puly Grind is designed for use with the burrs in your grinder. The granules are soft enough not to damage the burrs, yet effective enough to remove coffee oil residue.
