The bump rubber, or blade cushion, is the small rubber damper that sits in the groove on the plate inside the Gene Café roasting chamber. It softens the knock as the plate moves back and forth during a roast, which keeps the roaster quieter and cuts down on wear. Order it by part number CR73-005A; one cushion is supplied per pack.

What the blade cushion does
The Gene Café bump rubber, also called the blade cushion, is a replacement part for the roasting chamber. It sits in the groove on the plate inside the chamber and damps that plate as it travels back and forth through the roast. The result is a quieter roaster and less wear on the machine.
When to replace it
Rubber that has hardened, split or worked its way out of the groove no longer absorbs anything, and the plate starts knocking against bare metal instead. That is usually audible before it is visible: a roaster that has got noticeably louder is the first sign. Because the cushion also takes wear off the machine, it is worth changing as soon as it looks tired rather than waiting for it to fail altogether.
