View alternative Espresso Madrugador is Café du Jour's own blend of Arabica and Robusta from Guatemala, Colombia and Indonesia. The medium roast keeps it bold rather than dark and scorched: a spicy, lightly fruity espresso with chocolate and nuts behind it. There is body enough for cappuccino and definition enough for filter coffee. Whole beans, roasted and produced in the Netherlands.
Kimbo Prestige is the smoother end of the Neapolitan roaster's range: a medium-roast blend of 80% Arabica and 20% Robusta from Brazil, Vietnam and Indonesia. The cup is rounded and full-bodied, with caramel and biscuit and a light chocolate finish under a dense crema. Whole beans in a 1 kg bag, so you grind to suit espresso, cappuccino or filter.

The softer Kimbo
Much of the Kimbo range is bold and dark. Prestige is the approachable one: a medium roast at strength 5 out of 13 that stays smooth and rounded rather than sharp, so it holds up to being drunk every day. Caramel and biscuit carry the cup, the body is full, the aroma is intense, and it finishes on a light chocolate note.
The blend
Eighty per cent Arabica and twenty per cent Robusta, from Brazil, Vietnam and Indonesia. The Arabica brings the aroma and the finer flavours; the Robusta adds body and the dense crema. Kimbo roasts it in Naples, and the result is clearly Italian in character without being heavy.
How it brews
As espresso it pulls rounded and gently sweet, with a crema that shows well in the cup. In cappuccino the caramel and biscuit still come through the milk rather than being washed out. Through a filter the same beans open up and give the aroma more room. Because these are whole beans, you set the grind to whichever of the three you are making.
