What are Gorilla coffee beans?
Gorilla is the house brand of the German roaster A. Joerges GmbH. The range covers Arabica and Robusta blends, from the mild, floral Café Crème to the intense Bar Crema, all sold as whole coffee beans in 1 kg packs. They're made for a dependable cup every day.

Gorilla coffee is roasted in Germany from beans sourced in several coffee-growing regions. Each variant has its own flavour and intensity, so the choice mostly comes down to how you drink your coffee: black or with milk, espresso or a longer cup.
The Gorilla variants
- Gorilla Café Crème: light to medium, floral and fruity. The mildest cup in the range.
- Gorilla Crema No.1: medium to full-bodied, with chocolate notes and a smooth finish.
- Gorilla Espresso Delicato: mildly intense, for a balanced espresso.
- Gorilla Bar Crema: intense and full-bodied, with a thick crema.
- Gorilla Espresso Entkoffeiniert: the decaffeinated espresso (entkoffeiniert is German for decaffeinated).
Crema No.1 or Café Crème?
Crema No.1 has more body and a darker, chocolatey taste. Choose it if you like a full cup or take your coffee with milk. Café Crème is lighter and fruitier and suits a longer black coffee.
Which machine, which variant?
- Bean-to-cup machine: every variant works; Crema No.1 or Espresso Delicato give a balanced cup.
- Espresso machine with a portafilter: Bar Crema and Espresso Delicato give a strong espresso with good crema.
- Stovetop moka pot: Crema No.1 and Bar Crema have the intensity for it.
- French press: Café Crème and Crema No.1 suit a slow, full-bodied brew.
Grind size
Gorilla is sold as whole beans, so you grind just before brewing and keep more of the aroma. Grind fine for a portafilter machine, a little coarser for a moka pot and coarse for a French press. A bean-to-cup machine grinds for you: start in the middle of its range and adjust one step at a time.
Intensity and roast
How strong a Gorilla variant tastes depends on the beans and on the roast. A darker roast brings more bitterness and body; a lighter roast keeps more acidity and fruit. Arabica beans generally taste softer and more aromatic, while Robusta beans add strength, more caffeine and a thicker crema.
From mild to intense, the range runs like this: Café Crème, Crema No.1, Espresso Delicato, Bar Crema. The final taste also depends on grind size, water temperature and the amount of coffee you use, so treat this order as a starting point.
Storing a 1 kg pack
Once opened, keep the beans in an airtight container away from light, heat and moisture, and grind only what you need. Don't keep beans in the fridge: they pick up moisture and smells. If you use a bean-to-cup machine, fill the container with a few days' worth and keep the rest closed.
