This sample pack pairs two Lavazza blends: a 1 kg bag of Qualità Oro, a medium roast that drinks smoothly, and a 1 kg bag of Gold Selection, the sweeter and more aromatic of the two. Both are whole beans, 2 kg in total, which is enough to live with each of them for a few weeks before you decide which one deserves a permanent place in your grinder.

A kilo of coffee beans lasts a good while, so it pays to try a blend before you commit to it. This Lavazza Gold pack puts 1 kg of each of two blends in front of you and lets your own machine, your own water and your own grinder settle the argument.

The two blends

Lavazza Qualità Oro — 1 kg of whole beans, 100% Arabica, roasted to a medium level and smooth on the palate. The rounder and more even-tempered of the pair, and the one most people end up drinking through the day.
Lavazza Gold Selection — 1 kg of whole beans with a markedly sweet character and a great deal of aroma, both of which come through most clearly when you drink it black.

Both bags hold whole beans, so they suit an espresso machine with a grinder or any burr grinder on the worktop: fine for espresso, coarser for filter or a cafetière.

Stay with one bag until it is empty before you open the other. A coffee you drink every morning for a week tells you far more about whether you want another kilo of it than two cups tasted side by side on a Sunday.
