MHW-3BOMBER Flash Tamper 2.0 - 58.35 mm ripple base - constant pressure tamper

The MHW-3BOMBER Flash Tamper 2.0 is a 58.35 mm constant pressure tamper with a rippled stainless steel base: press until it clicks at 30 lbs, about 13.6 kg, and you have tamped with the same force as last time.

How the Flash Tamper 2.0 works

The Flash Tamper 2.0 has three springs. The constant pressure spring releases with a click you can hear and feel at 30 lbs, a reset spring brings the mechanism back, and a horizontal auxiliary spring helps keep it straight. A ring above the base sits on the basket rim, holding the base at 90 degrees as it sinks about 13 mm.

A 15 lbs spring is in the box for a lighter tamp. There is no dial: you change the spring by taking the mechanism apart and removing the internal pin.

Using the Flash Tamper 2.0

The Flash Tamper 2.0 is meant for 58 mm baskets, so check the inside diameter of yours, particularly if it tapers. The order MHW-3BOMBER recommends:

1. Dose the coffee into the basket.
2. Distribute it, with the MHW-3BOMBER WDT Lightning 2.0 for instance.
3. Tamp until you hear the click.
4. Pull your shot.

Clean the base with a dry cloth or a soft brush; walnut is natural wood, so the grain varies. Other tools are in barista tools.
