MHW-3BOMBER WDT Lightning 2.0 - black - distribution tool with stand

The MHW-3BOMBER WDT Lightning 2.0 (T6126) is a WDT tool in black: 8 stainless steel needles of about 0.4 mm that you stir through the grounds to break up clumps before tamping. WDT is short for Weiss Distribution Technique, distributing ground coffee with fine needles so it sits evenly in the basket. Clumps can cause uneven extraction and channelling.

How the WDT Lightning 2.0 works

The WDT Lightning 2.0 sets the width and spread of its needles with an adjustment cap. Turn the cap gently and do not force it past the stop. A magnet in the top holds the tool on the iron stand, with its lightning-bolt cut-out, the needles hanging free and out of harm's way. The tool comes apart, and 6 spare needles are included.

Using the WDT Lightning 2.0

The WDT Lightning 2.0 is used between grinding and tamping:

1. Set the needle spread to suit your basket.
2. Put a dosing ring on the portafilter and add the grounds.
3. Stir clockwise through the coffee to break the clumps.
4. Even out the grounds and level the top.
5. Tamp, with the MHW-3BOMBER Flash Tamper 2.0 for instance.

For filter coffee, stir the dry grounds in the dripper. The needles are fine: keep the tool out of reach of children and do not press it against hard surfaces, or the needles may bend.
