Rooibos and nothing else, in 25 individually wrapped tea bags. It brews a deep red-brown cup with an earthy flavour and real body — robust, but with nothing sharp about it. Rooibos carries no caffeine of its own, so it works as well at ten at night as at eleven in the morning. The bags are unbleached and free of staples, each one sealed in its own envelope, and the tea is produced in the Netherlands.
Details
Rooibos from Sunleaf, made with rooibos and nothing else — no blend, no added flavouring. The cup is deep red-brown, earthy and full-bodied, robust without ever turning sharp, and it takes a splash of milk well.
Caffeine
Rooibos does not come from the tea plant at all but from a South African shrub, and it carries no caffeine of its own. Nothing has been taken out to get it that way, so there is no decaffeination behind it — which is why it is the obvious pot to put on after dinner.
The bags
Each bag is sealed in its own envelope, so an opened pack keeps as well as an unopened one and you can drop a couple in a bag for work without them going stale. The bags themselves are unbleached and held together without staples. One bag per cup, hot water over it, and leave it as long as you like — rooibos does not go bitter the way black tea does, so a forgotten bag is not a ruined cup.
