Clean Express cleaner for coffee machines

Clean Express comes in two formats: 2.5 g cleaning tablets for the brewing unit and a 1 litre liquid cappuccino cleaner for the milk system. Between them they cover the two places where a bean-to-cup machine gets dirty: coffee oil in the brewing unit and milk residue in the hoses and frother.

Cleaning tablets for the brewing unit

Every cup leaves a thin layer of coffee oil on the brewing unit and in the pipes. Over time that film goes rancid and gives the coffee a stale, bitter edge. A Clean Express tablet dissolves during the machine's cleaning programme and degreases the system from the inside.

1. Place one tablet where your machine's manual tells you to, usually the ground-coffee chute or the coffee tray.
2. Start the cleaning programme as described in the manual.
3. Let the machine flush the tablet through the system.
4. Rinse with clean water if the machine asks for it.

Cappuccino cleaner for the milk system

Milk leaves fat and protein behind in the hose, the frother and the carafe. Left overnight it dries on, blocks the frother and taints the next milk drink. The liquid Clean Express cappuccino cleaner dissolves that residue.

1. Dilute the cleaner according to the dosing instructions on the bottle.
2. Run the solution through the milk system or milk hose.
3. Rinse thoroughly with clean water afterwards.

How often to clean

At home, one cleaning tablet a week is a good rhythm for the brewing unit. A machine in an office that makes coffee all day is better off with a daily clean. The milk system needs cleaning after every day of use; many machines remind you when it is due.

Will the tablets fit your machine?

Cleaning tablets are not all the same size, so check the measurements before you order. A Clean Express tablet weighs 2.5 g and measures 17 mm across and 6 mm high. Put that next to the tablets your machine uses now or the size given in its manual. Tablets of this format are used in many Saeco, Jura, De'Longhi, Melitta, WMF and Bravilor machines, but models differ even within one brand, so the measurements are the real test.
