Cleaning tablets for fully automatic machines

Coffee is oily. Every cup leaves a trace of fat in the brew group of a fully automatic machine, and over a few weeks it turns into a stale film that you end up tasting. Clean Express cleaning tablets are made to remove it. Nuova Ricambi, the Italian company behind Clean Express, makes them as a degreaser for fully automatic coffee machines: a white, odourless tablet that dissolves easily, breaks down coffee fats and releases active oxygen as it works. The solution rinses out completely and leaves no residue on the parts it has cleaned.

How to use them

Fully automatic machines: at the end of a day's use, put one tablet into the cleaning opening and start the cleaning programme as your machine's manual describes.

Traditional espresso machines: put one or two tablets in the blind filter and run the group as if you were making a coffee. Open and close it at intervals of about 10 seconds, repeat four or five times, then rinse thoroughly.

Will they fit your machine?

Machines take different tablet sizes, so check before you order. These are 1 g tablets, 11 mm in diameter; your manual will tell you whether your machine takes a 1 g tablet. If a tablet sits awkwardly in the opening, some owners break it into smaller pieces.

Cleaning and descaling

These tablets deal with coffee oil, not limescale. Descaling is a separate job with its own product, and you will find both in our coffee machine maintenance range. The tablets irritate the eyes, so handle them with care and wash your hands afterwards.
