Are the flavours in the mixed package really different from each other?
Yes, each illy variety in the package has its own character. For example, you can taste floral notes in the Classico, cocoa and caramel in the Intenso, jasmine in the Ethiopia, and chocolate, caramel and honey in the Guatemala. This makes the package ideal as a tasting set to discover your favourite illy flavour.
Are these illy beans suitable for every espresso machine or fully automatic coffee machine?
Yes, the illy coffee beans in this package are suitable for all coffee machines that can brew coffee from whole beans, such as espresso machines and fully automatic machines. For the best results, we recommend grinding the beans just before use.
What kind of flavour can I expect from the illy Decaf coffee beans?
These decaffeinated beans offer a full, balanced flavour with a good body and a smooth finish. Although the caffeine content is greatly reduced, they retain the taste experience you expect from illy. Many customers compare the flavour to the regular illy Classico beans, so you don't have to compromise on experience. Please note: decaffeinated does not mean caffeine-free, a small residual amount remains.
Are these coffee beans suitable for all coffee machines and brewing methods?
Yes, these Lucaffé coffee beans can be used in all fully automatic machines, semi-automatic machines, and other machines that grind whole beans. The Exquisit variety is suitable not only for espresso but also for filter coffee, so you can try out different brewing methods with this sample pack.
Are the packages in the sample pack resealable and how should I best store the beans?
The coffee beans are supplied in standard kilo packs from Mövenpick. These are fitted with a valve, but are not always fully resealable. We recommend folding an opened pack tightly or transferring the beans to an airtight coffee storage container to preserve freshness and flavour for as long as possible.
Which Mövenpick coffees are included in this tasting pack and what are their main flavour characteristics?
In this sample pack you will find four types of Mövenpick coffee beans: Café Crema (mild 100% arabica with nutty notes), Espresso (powerful, spicy, with a full crema layer, perfect for espressos and milk-based drinks), Gusto Italiano (intense and strong, with beans from Africa and Central and South America), and El Autentico (balanced, full-bodied 100% arabica from the highlands). This way, you can try different flavours and discover which one you like best.
Why are there kilo packages in the sample pack instead of smaller packages?
We supply the Mövenpick tasting pack as packaged by Mövenpick. Therefore, the coffee varieties are available in kilo packs, which is more economical. You will receive a whole kilo of each variety, giving you plenty of time to taste each coffee properly, on your own or with others.
For which brewing methods are these decaf coffee beans suitable?
These coffee beans are perfectly suited for espresso machines, fully automatic and semi-automatic machines. Thanks to their balanced roast and rich flavour, they also work well with other brewing methods that use fresh beans, such as a portafilter machine or coffee grinder.
Does this coffee roaster produce a lot of smoke and how should I best deal with it?
As with any coffee roaster, the use of the Gene Café CBR101 produces smoke, especially with darker roasts. We recommend using the device under an extractor hood or near an open window to ensure proper smoke ventilation. This way, you ensure a pleasant user experience, even when roasting indoors.
When is the best time to use freshly roasted coffee for optimal flavour?
We recommend waiting at least 4 to 24 hours after roasting before using the coffee. In our experience, the coffee beans are at their best between day 3 and day 5 after roasting. That is when the flavours are at their finest.
How do I find the right temperature and time for roasting with the Gene Café CBR101?
We recommend starting with a temperature of approximately 235°C and adjusting it based on your taste preference and the type of bean you are using. The average roasting time is between 13 and 17 minutes per batch of 250 grams. Many users indicate that experimenting with temperature and time yields the best results. If desired, you can lower the temperature slightly after the first 'crack' for more control over the roast profile.
Are the three varieties in the sample pack very different in terms of flavour?
Yes, the three types of coffee beans in this tasting pack each have their own character. The Espresso is powerful and full of flavour, the Gran Aroma has a smooth taste with a beautiful crema layer and spicy notes, and the Antica Bottega (100% arabica) offers a subtle cocoa and floral aftertaste. This way, you can easily taste which coffee beans suit your preferences best.
Are the beans in the sample box suitable for people who do not like very strong coffee?
This tasting pack contains various strengths, from the mild Café Crema to the powerful Espresso. If you do not like very strong coffee, we recommend starting with the Café Crema or El Autentico; both are full of flavour, but less intense than, for example, the Espresso or Gusto Italiano.
How much noise does the Gene Café CBR101 make during roasting and does this affect hearing the 'crack'?
The Gene Café CBR101 operates relatively quietly for a home roaster, but there is certainly some noise during use. Some customers indicate that it can sometimes be difficult to clearly hear the first and second 'crack'. We recommend roasting in a quiet environment and listening carefully, especially when setting up your first roast profile.
How do I best use the DVA water filter with my espresso machine?
We recommend fully submerging the filter in water for 10 minutes before use. This allows the filter to become saturated and prevents unnecessary air from entering the water supply hose and pump of your espresso machine. Once saturated, simply connect the filter to the water supply hose in the water reservoir of your espresso machine.
