Hario V60 dripper - porcelain white - size 02

The Hario V60 in white porcelain, size 02, supplied with a measuring spoon. It is a pour-over dripper: a paper filter, ground coffee, hot water poured by hand, and a mug or a carafe underneath.

Where the name comes from

The V60 is named after its shape — a V-shaped cone with walls set at a 60-degree angle. At the tip sits one large hole rather than the several small ones of an older-style filter holder, and ribs run up the inside wall to hold the paper off the porcelain so air can escape as the water drains. Because that opening is wide, the dripper does very little to slow the water down of its own accord. You control the flow, and with it the strength and the flavour, through how finely you grind and how you pour.

One to four cups, up to 600 ml

How many cups you get depends on how much coffee and water you use, but size 02 is made for one to four. For an even extraction, keep to a maximum of 600 ml of water in a single brew; if you need more than that, brew twice. Use Hario V60 papers in size 02 — the 01 filters are cut for the smaller cone — which we stock in brown, 100 to a box.

Porcelain, and keeping it clean

Porcelain retains heat better during brewing than plastic or glass, which shows up as a steadier temperature and a more consistent cup; that is why a lot of home baristas prefer this version. It is dishwasher safe, though handling it gently keeps the glaze looking new, and a rinse with warm water after each brew is the quickest way to keep it clear of coffee oils.
