1001 Nights is a loose-leaf blend of green and black tea, scattered with rose petals, jasmine blossom and marigold. The dry leaf is as colourful as the cup is floral, with jasmine on the nose and a fruity strawberry note running underneath. Because there is green tea in it, the blend wants water off the boil rather than straight from it. 100 g.

1001 Nights mixes green tea and black tea with rose petals, jasmine blossom and marigold petals. The petals and the blossom give the blend its look and most of its scent; the fruity strawberry note comes from added flavouring, so there is no fruit in the pack. In the cup it reads floral first, with the black tea providing the body underneath.

Two teas, one temperature

Green and black leaf normally want different water, so this blend takes the middle road: around 80 to 85 degrees and two to three minutes, with roughly 2 g of tea per cup. Water straight off the boil, or a long steep, mainly pushes the green tea towards bitterness and flattens the jasmine. If the cup comes out too light for you, add more leaf rather than more time.

Weigh it if you can

Use a roomy strainer or tea filter with a fine mesh: the leaves need space to open and the small petals are better kept out of your cup. There is a lot of light petal material in this blend, so a spoonful of it weighs less than a spoonful of plain black tea. Weigh your 2 g, or take a generous level teaspoon. On that dose a 100 g pack gives you about 50 cups.
